Information and Communication Technology Needs in Human Life

Technology is a scientific method for achieving practical goals, applied science, or all means for providing the goods necessary for the continuity and comfort of human life.

The history of technology begins with the emergence of the human species on earth, traces of equipment and technology possessed by humans since the beginning of civilization were found, then reconstructed historically and then analyzed in relation to the development of human civilization.

The term technology became prominent in the 20th century along with the Second Industrial Revolution. Etymologically, the root of the word technology is “techne” which means a set of rational principles or methods related to the manufacture of an object, or certain skills, or knowledge of principles or methods, and art.

Currently technology has entered almost all areas of human life, including information and communication technology.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) covers two aspects, namely information technology and communication technology. Information technology includes all matters relating to the process, use as a tool, manipulation, and management of information.

While communication technology is everything related to the use of tools to process and transfer data from one device to another. Therefore, information and communication technology are often inseparable from one another.

Since the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, all elements need to push social restriction initiatives not only on a large scale but also locally. One way to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is by having restrictions starting from government agencies to the general public in carrying out activities.

Existing restrictions certainly have a sizeable impact both in terms of economic, social, education, health, and policy. Including services to the community carried out by government agencies are limited and do not work as before.

This problem arises and forces all levels of society to be able to innovate and take advantage of existing technology, especially information and communication technology (ICT). ICT has become a lifestyle and also a major requirement in facilitating the implementation of activities. With ICT, community services can be carried out wherever and whenever.

The current Covid-19 pandemic has given rise to the term Work From Home (WFH), which means carrying out activities or working from home. WFH is not a reason for someone to postpone work and not carry out their obligations in providing services to the community.

The demand to maintain distance and reduce mobility during a pandemic has forced all countries to provide websites so that service users and residents can access services via mobile phones, computers and other gadgets while staying at home. Utilizing existing technology, the public can submit requests for services in the areas of State Property Management, State Receivables, Auction Services, Appraisal Services and virtual consultations.

Initially, some service users who were not familiar with the internet would have difficulty accessing and requesting services. However, with the current conditions, utilizing online services (e-service) in carrying out services to the community is the best solution for all parties. With online services, besides being more effective it is also efficient for the community. Efficient in terms of savings ranging from transportation, time, energy, to other costs incurred when going to the service office.
